Whole Class Management Ideas
Trade instructional time for recess – Keep track of the amount of instructional time the class wastes while you wait for them to settle down or listen to instructions and make that time up during recess. This idea will use peer pressure to keep everyone in line.
Plan a Fun Friday – instead of taking away recess time, give extra recess time to the class after they “earn” it with their good behavior during the week. Set up a chart for them to earn the reward. This can be as little as a half hour of extra recess or other preferred activity for the students. If any students have not earned the right to participate, they can sit at their desks with their head down.
Create a token society – some teachers create their own currency for this idea. Basically, the teacher pays students for good behavior and the students pay the teacher for their bad behavior. The teacher then has a store set up where students are allowed to spend their money or tokens.
Allow the class to earn free time – starting with a set amount of time, say 10 minutes, students can earn or lose more time during the day with their behavior.
